Car(e) free La Rochelle !!!

You won't believe how easy it is to get around La Rochelle and surrounding areas ! By foot, cycle, rail, bus or boat - no need for a car !

And to make it really easy just buy either :

bullet

an RTCR "Autoplus Forfait" - for buses etc within La Rochelle

bullet

or a "Pass'Partout17" card - for travelling within La Rochelle itself and between La Rochelle and surrounding areas (including the ReBus to Ile de Re and trains)

bullet

or a "Pass Rochelais" card - for travelling within La Rochelle only (it does not include the ReBus to Ile de Re nor trains) plus reduced price entry to one or more tourist attractions

and use them on any of the following marked with   or   (more information below)

By foot :

Everywhere in La Rochelle centre is easy to walk to - you can walk from one side of the centre to the other within 30 mins !

But of course it takes longer, with all those sights to see, and bars and restaurants to visit !

By cycle :

La Rochelle and the surrounding areas are a cyclist's dream ! There are 150 kms of designated cycleways in the area - around La Rochelle itself, or set off for the Ile de Re, the fishing port of La Pallice, the beachside quaintness of Chatelaillon-Plage or the pleasure marina at Les Minimes (otherwise up to 30 mins walk from the centre of La Rochelle).

Free "Velos Jaunes" bike hire available from the Place de Verdun, and on the Quai Valin on the old port from May to September. Free for up to 2 hours, longer for a fee (currently just €1 per hour !)

By sea :

Le Bus de Mer (Water Taxi) : takes you on the 20 minutes sea crossing between La Rochelle's Old Port and the new marina and leisure developments at Les Minimes.

      

Le Passeur (The Smuggler) : takes you on the 2-3 minute trip across the entrance to the Old Port, from the Tour de la Chaine to the Ville en Bois and mediatheque for visits to the museums. Or you could of course just walk it in 5 mins !

      

Croisieres Inter-Iles

Boats trips (including bars and loos !) to many local islands and attractions  ... Ile d'Aix; Fort Boyard; Ile d'Oleron; Ile de Re.

Croisieres Oceanes

Excursions (1hr30mins - half day) by boat to Fort Boyard; Ile de Re; Ile d'Aix; Ile d'Oleron.

Also one way or return journeys to Ile d'Oleron and Ile d'Aix

By bus or coach :

The "navettes electriques" run every 20 minutes during the day between central La Rochelle and the new marina and leisure developments at Les Minimes. No designated stops - just stick out your hand !

The extensive and regular local RTCR bus service can take you anywhere across La Rochelle, including to Chatelaillon-Plage

An equally impressive "car" (coach) service takes you further afield including : REBUS to the Ile de Re and OCECARs to Chatelaillon-Plage, Surgeres, Rochefort, Royan and Saintes

(not included on "Pass Rochelais")

By rail :

Local (TER) trains offer regular services between La Rochelle and : Surgeres, Chatelaillon-Plage; Rochefort, Saintes and Royan.

(not included on "Pass Rochelais")

Regional trains (SNCF) can take you direct to an even wider range of places to visit, if you want to explore even further afield, including : Bordeaux, Niort, Poitiers and Nantes

If you want to travel mainly just around La Rochelle : buy a multi-journey "Forfait" from l'Espace Autoplus in the Place de Verdun and use it on any of the following :

Just choose for how long (24 hours, 3 days, 7 days or longer) ... pay the fee ... and you get a magnetic card that you can use as you've chosen, without having to worry about working out how to pay each time !

Bit if you want to travel more widely - in La Rochelle & surrounding areas : buy a Pass'Partout17 travel card from the RTCR office in the Place de Verdun and use it on any of the following :
