The gite (to the right), adjoining the owners' house (to
the left) :
Having ourselves hired gites for a number of years, we
feel our gite is a bit different from the average - we hope that after looking
at the pictures (follow the links above) you'll see what we mean !
The gite has been primarily designed to provide spacious
(95 m2) accommodation for 2 people. However, it can easily accommodate up to 4 people if
you want to bring some friends with you !
Renovated in 2002 and updated since, the gite consists of :
On ground floor :
| kitchen/dining room : modern and fully equipped incl full
sized oven & ceramic hob, breakfast bar, dishwasher, washing machine,
fridge/freezer, microwave, dining table/chairs and direct dial telephone/answering
machine |
| living room : with Godin log
burner, TV/video with English (BBC, ITV, Film4 etc) & French channels, DVD
player, CD/radio/cassette player & sofa (a sofa-bed can be
provided for people not able to get up the stairs, subject to availability) |
|
bathroom : bath with wall mounted shower attachment |
|
separate WC |
|
entrance hall, with spiral staircase up to : |
On 1st floor, in the converted grenier/loft,
2 large bedrooms (each approx 6mx3m / 18ftx9ft into the eaves - although with
some low beams) :
| main double bedroom for 2 people, incl. sitting area with
sofa ... and French windows with views across countryside towards
the estuary (and the sunsets !) |
|
mezzanine double bedroom for additional 2 people, leading to
main bedroom |
and outside :
|
an enormous (6x4 metre)
all weather & all year round garden room/terrace with triple sliding patio doors, opening onto pool
area and stunning views across garden and valley beyond |
If/when you need heating in the garden
room, there is a log burner (from December 2008) or if
you just want a quick bit of added warmth there is a stylish infra-red gas
radiator
So if it's a
bit drizzly you can still relax and enjoy a good book (or an even better
bottle of wine !) whilst enjoying the "being in the garden" feeling and gazing
at the views across garden and valley to the village beyond !
And when it stops drizzling and
warms up - just open up as much or as little of the patio doors as you want -
opening up as much as 2/3rds of the room to the garden.
With a choice
of furniture : easy chairs; wood steamer-style chairs or deckchairs.
Plus dining table & chairs, coffee table and side tables.
| plenty of choice of garden furniture
(wood or PVC sun-loungers, chairs, tables & parasols), plus BBQ, and 2 bikes |
| use of 11mx5m swimming pool - May to
October incl. The pool is
approx 1m in the shallow end and approx 2m at the deep end, with a diving
board * |
|
use of garden - approx 1 acre - incl boules pit and
picnic area with 2nd BBQ |
|
with pool and garden shared only with the owners and from time to time
their guests. Yours is the only gite, and normally you will have the pool
entirely to yourselves most of the time ! |
and the ever popular "finishing touches" :
|
with your confirmation letter, you'll get our
colour information booklet - with everything from our favourite places to eat and
drink, to the all important opening times of local supermarkets - and of
course maps and directions for getting to us ! |
|
and waiting for you when you arrive : |
|
fresh flowers to gladden the eye |
|
our complimentary "Post Travelling Recovery Kit"
otherwise known as our "Welcome Pack", including a bottle
of champagne, or wine if you prefer (for you to celebrate the start of your holiday !) and provisions for an evening snack and
morning breakfast - so you don't need to go to a supermarket after travelling ! (Pack includes : bottle of
champagne or 2 bottles of wine, olives,
bread,
croissants, milk, cheese, orange juice, tea, coffee, sugar, margarine,
pasta & pesto sauce) |
| an abundance of up to date tourist maps, guides and leaflets
- carefully organised to make it easy to find just what you want (yes,
Chris IS that sad !) |
| availability of an extensive DVD & video library (to
accompany that late night bottle of wine perhaps ?) |
| Wi-fi coverage is provided
on request (subject to availability**) if you bring a wi-fi enabled laptop. |
|
the gite Information Folder with details of everything from
the latest weather forecast, times of local markets, list of DVDs/videos
available to borrow and information about how to use all
the gite's facilities - from the dishwasher to the underwater swimming pool
floodlights ! |
Whilst the gite is attached to Chris and Martin's house, it is
completely self contained and the terrace is divided to provide privacy. Your
privacy is assured : in the words of previous guests :
"Chris and Martin ... manage that delicate
task (so easily !) of being unobtrusive & yet so friendly. We shall return ..."
The gite is well equipped with heating for the cooler months, with a Godin log burner in the living room
and wall mounted electric radiators and convector
heaters in all other rooms - including modern "chaleur douce"
radiators for gentle and controllable background warmth
We're ashamed to say that some of the internal doors, even on
the ground floor, are too narrow for wheelchairs to get through. Otherwise, the
ground floor facilities are quite accessible for people with mobility
difficulties and we can provide a sofa-bed in the living room for people who
cannot manage the stairs (subject to request at time of booking & availability).
For people with hearing disabilities, sub-titles can be provided
on the TV (dependent on specific programmes) upon request, and many DVDs in the library
have sub-titles available.

* We have
installed a wireless pool perimeter alarm that conforms with French legislation regarding pool safety
(AFNOR standard NF P 30-307) - but all guests are given a code to
disable the alarm whenever they wish to use the pool !!
** Wi-fi coverage is subject to availability :
e.g. equipment/network failure outside the owners' control and network is turned
off during storms
